When I was thirteen years old, my mother enrolled me in ballet classes because I was awkward and ungainly. I remember going to buy Capezio leotards and tights and then starting class. I loved the dancing. What I didn’t love was the fact that just about everyone else was five years younger than me. If it hadn’t been for that, I think I would have stuck with ballet for many years, instead of the merely three months it took me to whine my way out of it.

Now I’m an adult and I wish I knew how to dance! I might pick up some discount dancewear and at the very least, break out that belly dancing DVD I have! It would certainly shake off a few of these pounds, I’m sure.

I don’t know about you, but the further into my forties I get, the more appealing many cosmetic procedures begin to seem. Right now, I’m looking into having Botox at the very least, and I would like an eye lift. It can be tricky to find plastic surgeons, however. You want to find someone who is really skilled in their field and who has performed the procedure you are wanting to get many times. It is good to have a broad pool of plastic surgeons to choose from so you can get the absolute best! One solution is to go to LookingYourBest.com and see which surgeons are located in your particular area. For example, if you are looking for Denver Plastic Surgeons, you’ll see a list pop right up, and then you can proceed to find out which one has the most experience. Have fun getting younger!

If you carry a balance on several credit cards at a high interest rate, one way you can make your monthly payments lower is by debt consolidation. What this means is that a company will carry your debt for you, and you will make one payment, usually at a lower interest rate, to that company instead. Sometimes the company can negotiate with your lenders to get them to lower your balances. Many times, consolidating debt can be a road out of endless rising interest rates, over limit fees and the like.

There can be a catch, however. If you do this, and then immediately take on additional debt, through credit cards, car loans or whatever, you will quickly find yourself in a deeper financial hole than you were to begin with. So if you are considering debt consolidation, you’ll want to make sure that you are one hundred percent committed to reducing your debt, and you can’t do that if you take on even a tiny bit of additional debt during this process.

One of the biggest reasons I can see for going with a debt consolidation company is that often, the credit card companies don’t negotiate as well with individuals as they do with companies. At least, this has been my experience. I think once you decide to consolidate your debts, the credit card companies know you are serious about not dealing with them anymore and negotiate more seriously with the company representing your interests.

Of course, you’ll want to make sure that the company is, in fact, representing your interests. Make sure that you get everything in writing and read the fine print. You should get a more favorable interest rate than you had with the credit cards. Also, do the math. Figure out how much you will be paying off over the period the loan covers and make sure that it’s not more than you already owe!

Getting out of debt requires serious discipline and considerable good judgment.

There is this woman who I totally admire at our local farmer’s market. She started out with a hobby making candles. She brought a few of them to the market one day and they were a total hit. I think part of the reason they are so popular is because she packaged them so professionally. None of this candle in a mason jar stuff, you know? Obviously, she found an excellent source for wholesale candle glass jars and just went with it.

Now, when you go to the farmer’s market, you see this entire trailer full of candles, all perfect in their jarred splendor. Now, I know she doesn’t use any special ingredients. Any person who can walk in a hobby store could make the same thing. It all lies in the jars.

So one of the things I’ve been doing lately is checking out jars online, like at JarStore.com, for example. I’m trying to get ideas. I mean, perhaps her concept actually started with the jars themselves, you never know. So I’m wondering what else could be sold at the farmer’s market in jars. If you buy them wholesale, they’re certainly affordable, and there are so many to choose from. Massage oil? Bath and body products? Jam? Pickled beets? The thing I’ve noticed about gourmet grocery stores is that they always package expensive things in unique jars. So perhaps I’m onto something.

Some things you don’t even think about until something brings it to your attention. Lately, that thing has been the dog bed. It is the most highly coveted piece of real estate in our house. Frequently, the cat tries to take it over. So there is already a bit of a battle going on between the dog and the cat. This has escalated since we got a new dog. Now the new dog wants to sleep in the dog bed, and so there is this silent dog bed war going on.

I can’t believe I didn’t think to get another dog bed when we got the new dog. Duh. Fortunately, I get the best dog beds known to man. Did you know that there are heated dog beds? Memory foam dog beds? I didn’t. It looks like the dogs may end up having a better bed than we do!

I raised one kiddo who loved skateboarding, and my second son appears to be well on his way. Recently, we were looking at some skateboards for sale, and he wanted one that was pretty pricey. I told him that he could work on getting better at the one we have, and then we’d see.

He gets inspired by my students, several of whom use the alternative school’s parking lot as a place to skateboard in the evening, after almost everyone has left. There’s also a building that has a few steps, which makes for some entertaining and daring stunts. I complemented one of my students on his skills, and he looked at me in alarm. He thought I was going to turn him in for being on school property after hours. No way! Our town doesn’t have a skate park or anywhere else for kids to use their skateboards. The school parking lot is fine by me.

I can understand my younger son’s desire for a new skateboard. Just a glance at SkateboardShowroom.com and you see some really fine boards. Not being a skater myself, I’m partial to the decks, which are a unique showcase for art, as far as I’m concerned. Art and function, how cool is that?

You can get everything you need to get rolling at their site. The most important section to me is the safety section. My older son broke both wrists skateboarding, and the only reason was because he wasn’t wearing his wristguards. You can buy wrist protection as well as protection for elbows, knees and head for a very reasonable price. This is one area not to forget. It can be easy to do when you’re looking at such a nice selection of skateboards, though. Just remember to click on “safety.”

One of the worst fights that my husband and I have ever had involved a window. Unfortunately, the beautiful picture window that came with the older house that we bought needed to be replaced, and my husband and his brother replaced it with abolute junk, as far as windows go.

This was completely unnecessary. Just look at what else is available! I love the double glazing done by Central Scotland Joinery. Just look at their work!

If we had had work like this done when we replaced the window, we would have saved ourselves a lot of grief. As it is, we took a house and actually devalued the property, instead of adding to the property value! If anything like this ever comes up again, I’m going with someone who can do quality work.

It seems like half the women I know are getting pregnant. It makes me wonder if there is something in the water or something. At any rate, I’ve noticed that maternity clothes can either be super-cute or horrifically ugly. Here’s an example of one of the super-cute ones!

The awesome thing about maternity clothes from Kiki’s Fashions is that they are so much less expensive than the maternity clothes (the dowdy ones) you’ll find in mall boutiques. Not only are the styles current, but you can easily find maternity clothes that fit the season on their site.

I wish they’d been around when I was pregnant with either of my sons. At that time, the clothes I found were awful! I had a couple of things that were both affordable and tolerable, and it seems like I wore those two outfits almost every day! With affordable prices, though, a person could actually have a wardrobe while pregnant. How cool is that?

Here’s a little bonus. You can get an additional 20 percent off if you use the code “blogfriends” at checkout!

I’ve always dreamed of having an organic garden. You just save so much on food once you learn how to garden in a way where you don’t have the critters eating up everything you plant. It also helps encourage you to eat a healthier diet, and I certainly need that!  At my new house, we have a lovely yard, but what we soon discovered was that during the spring and summer, when the trees leap out, what we don’t have is a lot of sunlight. I have to say that I was disappointed not to be able to go ahead and plant a full-fledged garden and really get into this organic gardening lifestyle. Square foot gardening is especially appealing.

All has not been lost, though. We’ve been able to do a bit of organic gardening on our front porch, of all places. We are growing herbs right now, but we’ve figured out that next summer we can go ahead and at least add some tomatos to the mix. It is really wonderful to have fresh, chemical-free herbs at our disposal at dinnertime. We’ll just walk outside and grab a bunch of cilantro to chop up and put on tacos, or some oregano for spaghetti sauce or simply putting some basil leaves on a sandwich for a bit of extra flavor.

The frustrating thing, though, is when the bugs get into your plants and end up eating more of them than you do. That’s when you’re thankful there are products that can knock out 40 different kinds of the critters, like Safer Brand Bug Patrol, for example. That particular product is compliant for use in organic gardens, so if you like to sell your plants, you can still label them as organic. Of course, with the amount of produce I am producing, I don’t think I’m going to have a stand at our local farmer’s market anytime soon. But I have some really yummy spaghetti sauce!
