After thinking about it for a long time, I’ve decided not to get the Wii Fit. Frankly, I think I would get bored with it after a while. I haven’t talked to anyone who has gotten obsessed with it, like people did with DDR. I would have gotten all obsessed with DDR if I had a coordinated bone in my body, which apparently, I do not. My son beat the pants off me every time, and it got discouraging. I also started to get sick of the music. Still, it was good for at least a 100 good workouts, which I have a feeling, is more than I’d be able to say for the Wii Fit.

We’ve been biking a bit more, here and there. Mainly on the weekends. I need to get a lot more serious about it. I am too much of a wimp. If it’s too cold, I don’t want to go. Drizzling? Nope. I’d never make it in Seattle.

We are all counting down the weeks until Spring Break, now that TAKS season is upon us. Still, there’s three more weeks to go! Everyone at work, including me, has been sick. I’m getting worried that they’re going to dock my check, which would be awful. I’m finally getting over what started out seeming like a flu, thank goodness!

Exercise has totally went down the drain this week, what with Greg’s birthday (and all the cooking) and then getting sick. I’ve got to find a way to get back in the groove. With all of the stress that standardized testing causes, it’s definitely the time to reduce stress!

I’m also waiting for the weather not to be yukky. It seems like if it’s not one thing, it’s another.

Yesterday was Greg’s birthday, and I think he really enjoyed it. I made him his favorite dinner–roast with mashed potatoes and gravy, and made his favorite pound cake as well–real butter!

I got him a Garmin GPS, and he loves it! I also got him a new cell phone with a protective covering, which he needs. I totally want to borrow since I’ve found out that it gives an accurate reading of exactly how far you’ve walked or biked and even makes a little map of the route! I had no idea that the device did all of that! I thought it simply let you know the coordinates of where you were–so that he wouldn’t get lost fishing or whatever.

Also, now that he has it, we can go geocaching! Fun!

This Valentine’s Day has been one of the best ever, as far as I’m concerned! We went to a fabulous restaurant for lunch–the one that serves creme brulee, and yes, I know that I’m not supposed to have even a bite of that stuff. No comment.

My husband got me some great gifts. He got me a pink Cross pen to go with my new pink purse, and gift certificates for two massages and a mani/pedi. So I’ll be well-groomed and relaxed!

The orchid he bought me last year is starting to put out buds–I had thought it had completely died. I guess not! So that’s a gift that keeps on giving!

I bought Sage a little panda holding the biggest bamboo seeds that the world has to offer. He absolutely loved it, and we’ve already planted the seeds. Who knows what we’ll do if they actually sprout!

His birthday is in two days. I hope he enjoys his gifts as much as I’ve enjoyed mine!

So my son and I have been riding our bikes. It’s been a bit chilly, but you warm up pretty fast, that is, if it’s not windy already, with the wind blowing in your face and everything. The trail near my house is just perfect–this way we don’t have to worry about traffic and it’s very nice and peaceful. I definitely need to work up to riding longer–the first time we rode, I rode two or three miles, and my husband and son went on and rode another seven!

My kiddo was totally worn out when he came back to the house. His bike has one gear, so no wonder–he was steady peddling to keep up with my husband! It’s a good thing, though. Any kid who has PE twice a week and recess once definitely needs some outdoor activity.

I just bought a new bike. It’s a Schwinn of some sort. It has eight gears (I think) and was insanely cheap. I didn’t want to get a more expensive one, because I’m not sure if I’ll ride it yet. At least not regularly. It depends on if my husband and son will wait for me to catch up to them, because I’m not keen on riding the trails around here alone. They go through the woods, and there can be some characters back there. Scary. Perhaps I should also sign up for martial arts while I’m on this fitness kick.

At any rate, the bike is a hybrid–meaning it’s not a mountain bike, nor is it a street bike. The tires and suspension are somewhere in between. I wanted an easier ride, since I’m just getting started again. At the same time, I don’t want to totally wipe out on the trails.

The cat is angry. She’d rather I stay on the couch.

I know for me it always has been. I lost weight in Mexico because I had to walk everywhere. Even though I ate plenty of tacos and bakery goods, it all got burned off. Walking wasn’t a chore, either. Where I was, the weather was fabulous, and the people were nice. I was there six months, and lost about twenty pounds while getting nicely toned.

I can imagine losing even more if I were in, say, rural China. I’d still be walking everywhere, and I’ll bet you I’d be a lot pickier about the food.

You could also plop me down in Japan and feed me sushi. The weight would just fall right off. I can’t stand raw fish. Miso soup is great. I’d probably live on that and buckwheat noodles.

I know that living in East Texas is NOT conducive to losing weight. Eating is entertainment here, and we are the SOUTH. You know southern cooking… And you have to be careful where you walk. People on rural roads have been known to get beer bottles chucked at them.

Okay. I will NOT make excuses. But I would like to take a trip.

At work, my students have been having birthdays. I’ll bake cakes for them. Coworkers want my walnut brownies. Sage’s school has requested cookies. I’ll be so happy when I get to the point where I don’t have to stick my finger in the bowl every time I make something sweet. If I was a professional cook, I could easily see myself weighing hundreds of pounds.

I was talking to a colleague the other day about how some people just don’t like sugar, and never have. It’s got to be a genetic thing. Why? Why do I have to crave sugar like I’m a crackhead? Obviously, the weirdos who don’t like sugar don’t wake up in the middle of the night craving ice cream. So not fair.
