Sage has the most self-conscious look on his face in this photo! He had a good time at his party, though. I have such a hard time believing that he is ten. There’s something about the double-digits. One more year of elementary school, and then it’s on to middle school. I still haven’t come up with a solution to fix the schools in this country (ha!) so I’m nervous about the whole middle school/high school thing.

I hope with all of my heart that he stays sweet. He is just the sweetest kiddo, he really is. I know he’ll go through all of that hormonal stuff in a few years, but I really hope the sweetness stays. I know with my older son, it went away for a few years. Then it came back. Thank goodness.

Ten. Wow.

I went to church today with Sage simply because I’ve missed going. I’ve been wanting to try out other churches, but I haven’t, and for the dumbest reason, too. I haven’t wanted to invest in nice clothes until I’m at my goal weight, and I don’t have clothes that are dressy enough to wear to most of the other churches in town.

I am well aware that as far as God is concerned, this has to do with exactly nothing, but it is difficult to walk into a new church as a guest as it is, and feeling weird about clothes just gives me too much anxiety.

Maybe I need to go lie outside and look up at the stars for a while to put things in perspective, I dunno.

I did enjoy going to church, as did Sage. The sermon was rehashed from one of the other times I went, but perhaps that’s a good thing, since now I particularly remember it, and it was a good message. As always, I loved the music. My church has the best band in town. And you can wear jeans.

It’s hard to believe that we are having another Friday 13th this year! The kids aren’t making a big deal out of it, thank goodness! At work, we celebrated it as though it were St. Patrick’s Day, since we won’t be at school next week on the actual day. THANK GOODNESS SPRING BREAK IS FINALLY HERE!!!!

We had a green feast at work, and only two people brought green cupcakes, everyone else brought green salad and grapes. I brought kiwi. It was one of the healthiest work events we’ve ever had.

The kids were relatively calm, thank goodness, and there was none of the madness that always seems to occur right before a holiday.

Time to RELAX. :-)

I definitely read too much. I pick through the new book section of the library weekly, so I’ve (almost) always read the latest books–fiction and non-fiction. One that I’ve read recently is The Army of the Republic, which is just such a great book I don’t even know where to start.

It is a critique of the greedy corporate police state that we could so easily become. It is a critique of extreme left-wing groups. It is a critique of right wing groups and the media. It is a critique of familial relationships–all done up in an absolutely beautiful work of fiction.

The cover is great. The words on the front of the guy’s face say, “I will not be silenced.”

I am so terrible at girl talk. My parents came over last night, and my dad and I got into a heated discussion about international drug laws, which completely bored my mom and my sister-in-law, who started a discussion about which color of towels would look best in the master bath. My brother just sat there looking bemused during the entire conversation, while my husband escaped outside to play with the kids.

I mean, I do like coordinating things in my house and all, but as far as conversation goes, I’ll take politics over towels any day.

I do feel like I should take lessons in the art of feminine conversation or something, though.
